Wind chill calculator
Enter the temperature and wind speed.
How it's calculated
The National Weather Service formula, where T is the air temperature in °F and V is the wind speed in mph:
Wind chill = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75(V0.16) + 0.4275T(V0.16)
Wind chill is defined only for temperatures at or below 50°F and wind speeds above 3 mph. Outside that range, the calculator shows the air temperature.
What the number means
The lower the wind chill, the faster exposed skin can freeze. The National Weather Service gives this example: at 0°F with a 15 mph wind, the wind chill is −19°F, and exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes. Cover up, limit time outside, and check your ZIP code in the forecast for cold weather alerts.
